Welcome!

I’m glad you found me.

My name is Jeff Cover. I’d love to provide you with progressive Christian resources for responding to God’s call if you’re interested. Whether you’re an old friend or a new one, I’m happy to see you here. Since you may not know much about me, here’s a bit of my background.

I’m a Presbyterian pastor who has served churches in Indiana and Texas for 41 years.  I received my BA from Trinity University in San Antonio, my Masters of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and my doctorate from McCormick Seminary in Chicago. My thesis was on “Involving the Church in Community Ministry,” a mission I’m still passionate about to this day.

While in Palestine, TX, I was an instrumental part of a team that established a shelter for battered women and children.  I have served on the boards of Dunn Mental Health in Richmond, IN, the Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties in Palestine, TX, and as President of the Network of Community Ministries in Richardson, TX.  I’ve chaired the Committee on Preparation for Ministry and served as the Moderator of the Presbytery of Wabash Valley.

I led the adult education program at Central Presbyterian Church in Lafayette for 12 years.  Under my leadership the church received national recognition with an Ecumenical Service Award from the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.  In my time at Grace Presbytery, I led the Adult Contemporary Teaching workshops team

As a teacher and a minister my interests run far and wide. I’ve taught Sunday School classes on the Bible, World Religions, Grief, Celtic Spirituality, the Reformed Tradition and the Presbyterian Confessions of Faith.  I’ve presented workshops at the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators nationally on Bible Characters and Public Life.  In 2011, I was the recipient of a Clergy Renewal Grant from the Lilly Endowment and focused my work on “A Year of Spiritual Exploration” for the congregation.

Having retired from the ministry, I currently attend First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville, IN with my wife Debbie. There I serve on the Christian Education, Mission/Outreach and the Green Team committees.  I have to scratch the itch from time to time, so you can still find me in the pulpit supply preaching, and, of course, teaching Sunday School.  My wife Debbie and I are the parents of two grown sons, Nathan and Jeremy.
